The president of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca and the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, at Palazzo Santa Lucia signed the agreement between the three local authorities for the start of construction of Line 10 of the Naples Metro.

This metro will allow you to connect the high-speed station of Afragola to that of Piazza Garibaldi in Naples, Capodichino airport, Piazza Carlo III. Given the quantity of travellers, estimated at around 200 thousand per day and over 400 million travelers per year, it is hoped to obtain the other funds in a short time, as for now three lots of one and a half billion euros have been financed .

Consequently, it will take at least two years to see the first trains and these will be driverless trains.

The two lots of the project

The project is divided into two lots:

  • The first lot provides for the connection between the center of the city of Naples, the "Di Vittorio" station, the airport and the Afragola high-speed station. It is a 12,35 km route with 13 stations (Cavour, Foria, Carlo III, Ottocalli, Leonardo Bianchi, "Baffo" of Arzano, Di Vittorio, Casavatore San Pietro, Casoria Casavatore, Casoria Centro, Casoria Afragola, Afragola Garibaldi , Afragola Centro, Afragola AV) to these are added the 2 of Arzano centro and Casavatore Arzano. From here there will then be 4 interchange points with other lines of the existing and/or under construction transport networks: Nodo Cavour (line 2)/Museo (line 1); Di Vittorio Node (EAV-line1); Casoria/Afragola node at the intersection of the RFI railway line; Naples Afragola node at the AV/AC station.
  • The second lot includes a link road to Arzano of approximately 3,15 km.
