Sunday 2 October 2016 there are free museums in Naples and monuments, palaces and archaeological excavations also join!

The #Domenicalmuseo initiative is back and also Sunday 2 October 2016 in Naples i State museums will be free.

They will also be open to the public free of charge monuments, the palaces, monumental parks and gardens, as well as archaeological excavations. These are always state places and every first Sunday of the month all adhere to the project implemented by the Franceschini decree.

We do not yet know if there will be a theme that will connect all the openings in Italy, as happened for September, the month in which the free Sunday was dedicated to the relationship between museums and cinema. As soon as the Ministry of Cultural Heritage gives notice, we will update the article.

Pompeii Excavations Schedules

Every first Sunday of the month the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum, as well as Boscoreale and Oplontis, are free, but access is regulated according to certain time bands.

For Pompei, the bands are as follows:

  • from 8.30 to 12,30 and from 14,30 to 18,00
  • once the 15 thousand visitors have been reached, an early closure may occur in the first time slot. The second band, however, will start regularly at 14.30

There could also be control measures for the Herculaneum and Boscoreale excavations with time limitations.
