Napoli players cheering by shaking hands

Naples – Juventus, big match of the eighteenth day of Serie A which will be played on Friday 13 January at 20:45 at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium, will be directed by Daniele Doveri.

The referee, who is part of the Roma 1 section, will have the difficult task of directing this key challenge with a view to the Scudetto.

Napoli referee team – Juventus

La team of referees involved in the management of Naples - Juventus is the following:

  • Referee: Duties
  • Linemen: Costanzo, Passeri
  • Fourth man: Chiffi
  • VAR: Mariani
  • AVAR: Piccinini

The team chosen by the referee designer Nicola Rizzoli is of the highest level and should be able to avoid slip-ups and controversies.

Daniele Doveri's background

Daniele Doveri, an Italian soccer referee, has a long history with the Juventus and Napoli soccer clubs. With Juventus he has 23 precedents: 13 wins, 5 draws and 5 defeats. With Napoli, on the other hand, he has 33: 19 wins, 9 draws and 5 defeats. However, things didn't always go smoothly for Duties with both teams.

Recently, he was appointed to referee a match for Juventus after a long spell-related absence Turin derby 2019, in which he gave rise to controversy for a penalty not granted to Juventus due to a hand foul by De Ligt. Previously, Duties had been suspended after another derby, this time in the Italian Cup, for not having expelled the Juventus player Khedira who had committed a bad intervention on a grenade player.

At Napoli, there is a questionable refereeing of Doveri that has not yet been forgotten. We are talking about the Napoli – Inter match last February, when Doveri was photographed at the airport with an Inter backpack.

Friday's match will be the third Napoli-Juve refereed by Doveri in his career and the previous two were in favor of Napoli. The first time was in 2020, during the Coppa Italia final, that Napoli won. The second time, in 2021, it finished 1-0, thanks to a penalty scored by Insigne.

Social media has seen a great deal of commentary posted about Duty and his designation for this match, with some wishing him peace of mind in carrying out his job and others expressing concern about his refereeing decisions made in the past.
