The Christmas tree, made by Mimmo Paladino in the Spanish Quarters, is a variation of the Tree of the cuccagna of Lecce

The artist Mimmo Paladino has achieved, in Spanish quarters of Naples, Albero di Natale twenty meters high on behalf of a private client. We are faced with an alternative version of the Tree of the Greasy that marked the return of the artist to Lecce, a symbol of recognition for the city that bears the color of the sea and shows the numbers that indicate the passing of time and the sounds of the people. in the alleys and squares.

This is the social project of Foqus, an example of urban regeneration born from an idea of Rachele Furfaro and Renato Quaglia. Foqus is located on the ancient Spanish hill and includes a school that also hosts children with family problems (children of prisoners or children in foster care), a nursery, public companies, meditation centers, the neighborhood orchestra, 400 students of the Academy of the fine arts, the University for adults, an editorial office, a photographic agency, a music therapy center, cooperation for training and start-ups.

The latest project, carried out by Foqus, is “Argo” thanks to it 34 disabled children and adolescents (autistic and down) will spend 12 hours a day in the citadel of the Spanish Quarters. The Christmas Tree, made by Paladino in the middle of the courtyard of the former convent of Montecalvario, besides wishing Happy Holidays to the small community and the city, it also wants to be a symbol of beauty, art and shared work from those who fight every day to create a better future.

The tree will remain exposed for a month then it will be dismantled and reassembled in a more protected area, that is on the balconies of the three floors that overlook the second courtyard of the Foqus headquarters. On Saturday 17 December the citadel will be open to the public with a series of events: screenings of a video, exhibitions, musical performances, performances, open lessons, dance demonstrations and tastings of fried pizza by Enzo Coccia.
