For three nights in Cetara we celebrate and remember the tradition of fishing with anchovies with lamparas
The Municipality of Cetara and the Pro loco di Cetara - Amalfi Coast promote the "Night of the Lampare", an event intended to evoke the tradition of the ancient technique of anchovy fishing with lamparas.
The lampara is a powerful lamp mounted on a boat and is used at night to illuminate a vast area of the sea. This is to attract fish to the surface to then capture them in the network.
Lampara is also the name of the fishing vessel that mounts such equipment and the net used for this type of fishing.
At first the lamps were fed with carbide, after which oil and electric accumulators were used. Today we rely on generators.
On the evening of the event, the public will have the opportunity to watch fishing from the ferries off the coast of Cetara.
Spectators will be able to relive the unique emotion of this ancient and characteristic fishing technique, all in the amazing nocturnal setting of the Amalfi Coast and with the sea illuminated only by the light of the lamps.
