"The work is told" is the new cycle of exhibitions of forgotten or not open masterpieces at the Capodimonte Museum in Naples.

Thursday 11 May 2017 in Naples the director of the Museum e Real Bosco di Capodimonte Sylvain Bellenger will inaugurate "L'opera is told", a series of exhibitions dedicated to forgotten masterpieces, known or not, or not visitable because in storage.

The exhibits will allow visitors to access paintings, sculptures and objects of art of the extraordinary collection of the museum hitherto hidden and of discover its secrets, history and anecdotes thanks to the work of the two students ofÉcole du Louvre e Sciences Po coordinated by the Museum staff.

The first painting on display will be the "Christ on the Cross" by Anton Van Dyck. The painting had not been visible for two years, being in a room closed for maintenance work, accompanied by the Elevation of the cross by Belisario Corenzio and by Van Dyck himself to the Crucifixion by Dürer, the Deposition and the Pietà, respectively attributed to Perin del Vaga and Marco Pino.

After the inauguration on May 11th we will update the article to indicate how long the painting will be exhibited and the display of the new works.

Museum prices:

  • Full € 10 (with Picasso exhibition included, € 12) 
  • Reduced € 8: between 6 and 26 years and for groups of at least 15 people with compulsory reservation
  • Free: children under the age of 6, ICOM members, tour guides, group leaders, handicapped people, journalists with ID cards
