The Capodimonte Museum and Pompeii will host the Picasso and Naples exhibition with the Parade canvas.

Update: on the occasion of the closing of the exhibition, on 8 and 9 July there will be extraordinary events with evening openings.

The prestigious exhibition "Picasso and Naples. Parade" will be set up in two locations, al Museum of Capodimonte andAntiquarium of Pompeii, and will be a tribute to the famous Spanish painter, on the occasion of the centenary of his trip to Italy. It will be a four month exhibition that will take place from 8 April to 10 July 2017 and wants to pay homage to his short stay in our country.

Picasso, in fact, arrived in Italy in the 1917 together with Jean Cocteau, first visiting Rome, the city where he met the dancer Olga, who fell in love. Olga was one of the protagonists of the ballet "Parade" (from which the title of the exhibition) by Djagilev, whose realization also contributed to the two artists, with the music of Erik Satie. Picasso worked with Djagilev also in the following five years, following his company in Naples and also visiting Pompeii.

Exhibition at the Capodimonte Museum

From Center Georges Pompidou of Paris it will come right the curtain "Parade "long 17 meters and high 10 meters, which represents his largest canvas and will be exhibited in the Salone delle Feste.

In addition, to accompany the work, there will be a wide selection of works by Picasso. Among these, i sketches for the Pulcinella ballet (staged in the 1920 in Paris with music by Stravinsky and choreography by Massine) and some puppets and puppets of the Neapolitan mask from the Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso para el Arte collection. There will be a puppet theater by both Picasso and contemporary artists such as Depero, among the highest representatives of this art at the beginning of the century.

The exhibition thus aims to underline the importance that traditional Neapolitan culture had on Picasso, through symbols such as the nativity scene, the puppet theater and the popular theater.

Exhibition in Pompeii

The Pompeii exhibition will highlight the encounter that Picasso had with antiquity, visiting the archaeological excavations.
In the Great Theater of Pompeii  the show will be staged "Parade and Pulcinella " on the dates of 27, 28 and 29 July.

In the splendid setting ofAntiquarium of Pompeii will be exposed the costumes of the ballet "Parade" designed by the artist, who was in Pompeii in March 1917. In addition to the costumes, you can also admire a collection of African masks in comparison with a series of archaeological finds from the site, including a group of theatrical masks, for the mostly unpublished, such as antefixes, relief plates, herms, statues.

The magnificent will also be exhibited comp of the manifest picture of Cubism, Les demoiselles d'Avignon, painted in 1907, to highlight the unprecedented comparison between ancient references and theart nègre.

The exhibition can also be visited by downloading theapp "Picasso and Naples: Parade" from both Google Play for Android and the App Store for iOS. Will allow, through augmented reality and image recognition, to obtain more information on the Parade canvas and all the other works on display. Moreover, it also contains practical information about the Museum, indicating the location of all the works contained and recognizing them simply by pointing the camera towards them.
