The project of making a underground parking on the Naples waterfront had already emerged several times in the past, both because the area is often a lot busy and the difficulty of finding a place is not small, both because there is the age-old and unmanageable problem of unauthorized parking that we have been trying to fight for too long.

Here, with the new municipal administration led by the mayor Gaetano Manfredi, we return to talk about this idea of building an underground car park that start from Piazza Vittoria and continue along via della Movida on Via Partenope.

The Councilor for Mobility Edoardo Cosenza spoke about it again, referring to a 2011 project that he intends to recover in a short time.

The underground car park from Piazza Vittoria to the Broken Column

The creation of new parking spaces on the Naples waterfront is fundamental and the project in question involves the construction of an underground parking from the church of Santa Maria della Vittoria and continues up to the Broken Column. It will be a great one rectangular parking which will not only allow hundreds of motorists to leave the car, but will also help make the area above it more beautiful because the cars will be “hidden” underground.

In fact, this initiative joins the one envisaged by the restyling of Via Partenope whose works should start next autumn and will make our waterfront even more beautiful. We will talk about this in more detail shortly.

Returning to the parking lot, i parking spaces will be 240 and the construction site could be started already in 2023, although there are some difficulties due to a legal battle between the company Quick Parking and the Municipality, which began in 2011, and which referred to a previous parking project in the Morelli area. When this new initiative starts, the ongoing battle could also be canceled and agreements will be made with Quick Parking for the management of the parking.

The fight against illegal parking attendants

As mentioned, the new car park will be an important incentive for fight relentlessly against illegal parking attendants and we know that, an important step in this sense, is certainly the creation of alternative parking spaces and managed differently.

The municipal administration will ask even more intensely for the intervention of the municipal police and other law enforcement agencies to get better results than they are currently getting.

As can be seen from the previous rendering, published by Il Mattino, will be eliminated the level parking spaces on the surface and they will be there two accesses, an entrance and an exit, at the two opposite corners of the square.

Le flower beds they will be rearranged and made more beautiful, then they will be saved in the current project. The same goes for trees with larger roots.

Will the traffic change?

According to the first ideas, the current viability it should remain unchanged and of yards that will follow each other a alternating phases they should never block traffic.

They will also be restored the tram tracks so as to recover the whole line. For this reason, a construction site was opened in Via Cristoforo Colombo, between the Beverello pier and Portosalvo.

The restyling of the Lungomare Partenope

We mentioned a little above the restyling of the Lungomare di Napoli, which it should leave in the fall and which has been talked about for several years.

The project includes the following:

  • sea side sidewalk will not change size;
  • there will be two lanes for cycle paths;
  • there will be two driveways for emergency vehicles;
  • areas for loading and unloading;
  • the opening to the circulation of cars, if the municipal administration deems it necessary;
  • the arrangement of pavements on the side of the restaurants and hotels;
  • new high quality street furniture.
