Two multimedia installations at Palazzo Reale for the Forum delle Culture. The nuclear disaster of Peter Greenaway and the work of the artisans of Studio Azzurro

Until 9 December 2014 it will be possible to attend an interesting multimedia installation created by the famous Peter Greenaway inside the Sala Dorica of the Royal Palace.

The event, with free admission, is part of the review of Universal Forum of the Cultures of Naples which turns towards its end and which will end, therefore, with one of the undisputed protagonists of the contemporary artistic and cinematographic scene. The British Peter Greenaway is, in fact, one of the most significant filmmakers and visual artists in the world who, in recent years has moved away from the "traditional" cinematographic practice, giving life to new forms that involve viewers in original experiences thanks also to the use of the most advanced technologies in field of electronic image.

Atomic Bombs on the Planet Earth (Atomic Bombs on the Planet Earth) is a very original multimedia installation that aims to convey to the viewer the sense of the blind destructive fury of man through the nuclear disaster. Five large screens show, in a systematic succession, the images of all the nuclear explosions (as many as 2201) that have occurred in the history of our planet.

Spectators will witness the explosions on a sort of raft placed in the center of the Doric Room, immersed in a vortex of images and sounds.

On the opposite side of the Greenaway installation is located The color of gestures - Symphony of the Mediterranean, multimedia installation by the Milanese collective Studio Azzurro which, almost by contrast to the energy explosion produced by Greenaway, seems to evoke a suspension of time, through videos that show the work of artisans: violin makers, fishermen, saddlers, smelters, glaziers, engravers, potters, weavers, olive pickers, vintners, boat builders, restorers, dolls, bookbinders, farriers, tanners. Each of them, taken up in their environment, through the close-up of the hands intertwines a story of those gestures and sounds that literally give shape to the artifacts.

The two works of Greenaway e Studio Azzurro they not only visually convey to the spectators the two contrasting worlds represented by the two installations, but also reproduce sounds. The sound of nuclear explosions and the instrumental base, the natural noises of gestures and crafts. And all together they go to compose a large fresco that takes a "visible" shape by becoming sound installation as well as visual. A musical rewriting of sounds and noises generated by the meeting of the modeled material and those gestures that are repeated over the centuries like the heart rhythm of the entire territory facing the Mediterranean sea.
