The underground Museum of the Hypogeum

A large hypogeum was found four years ago, that is, one underground space, of about one thousand square meters under the square and since then works have been frequently planned to make it accessible to the public.

It was built in the nineteenth century by the will of the French general and King of Naples Gioacchino Murat, after which the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola was erected by the subsequent King of the Two Sicilies Ferdinand I.

The Underground Museum, according to the statements of the administration, will open by the end of 2022 and currently the Superintendency of Public Works has already started work. The Museum will consist of a central hall and four other surrounding rooms connected to it by some corridors. It will be accessed from a room located under the colonnade and also from the back of the church.

Probably it will also be connected to the Bourbon Gallery.

The decoration of the square

At the request of the director of the Royal Palace of Naples, Mario Epifani, the decoration of the square will also be improved. Indeed, with the help of social services, a solution will be found for help homeless people who sleep close to the facades of the Royal Palace, which overlooks Piazza Plebiscito.

Their health will also improve because it is very dangerous to sleep outdoors, especially in this period when temperatures are very low and, at night, even very close to freezing.
