It has been communicated the date on which the administration of the fourth doses will start of anti-Covid vaccine, but only for frail people at the moment.
The extraordinary commissioner for the Covid emergency, General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, said yes will start on March 1, 2022 and the implementing provisions are being given to set everything in motion since the specific audiences are being identified with the Minister of Health.
This decision was also taken after the positive opinion of Aifa, the Italian Medicines Agency.
A new dose boost: that's for whom
We must specify, however, that technically we're not talking about a fourth dose, but of one booster dose which will be done at the end of the primary vaccination cycle characterized by 2 doses + 1 additional dose.
It will be a reminder for the frail people severely immunosuppressed important because the anti-Covid vaccines are yes very effective, but not very long-lasting, therefore it is necessary to strengthen one's immunity.
After how many months will the fourth dose be done
According to the CTS of the AIFA, this fourth dose or dose boost for the frail it will be done by waiting for the same administration times for the general population. So they will have to pass at least 4 months after the third dose.
We remember that we are always talking about the severely immunosuppressed fragile population.
Which vaccines will be used
As for the other doses boost, mRna vaccines will be used, i.e .:
- Pfizer;
- Modern.
And the fourth dose for everyone?
There is currently no departure date for administering the fourth dose to everyone because not sure yet that the whole population will indeed receive it.
In any case, the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza does not rule out that there will be an extension for the whole population and, if it happens, there will be a lot of talk about it probably in the fall.
