"Re Babà" returns to Salerno with tastings, meetings and curiosities about artisan babà

The second edition of Re Babà will be held in Salerno where there will be tastings and meetings dedicated to the traditional dessert.

In the days 6 and 7 May 2017 at the Church of the Santissima Annunziata in the Monumental Complex "San Giovanni di Dio" in Salerno the second edition of the event will be held King Baba organized by the Claai-Unione degli Artigiani and the small and medium-sized enterprises of the province of Salerno.

The event, in the wake of the success achieved last year, intends enhance the artisanal pastry shops and their products, specifically the Babà Artigianale which boasts a history of almost three hundred years. It is said, in fact, that the babà is a variant of a naturally leavened cake originating in Poland named babka ponczowa. The first Neapolitan sources date back to 1836 when the cook Angeletti wrote a culinary manual describing the recipe with raisins and saffron, ingredients then replaced by cream and sour cherries.

During the two days of the event visitors can taste and buy the different types of babà produced by the best pastry chefs, discover the secrets and curiosities related to the famous dessert and attend the award ceremony of the King Baba 2017 award, organized by the CLAAI (Confederation of Free Italian Artisan Associations), in collaboration with the Consulate of the Republic of Poland - Campania Region and with Aipsap (Italian-Polish Association of Salerno and its province), and sponsored by the Municipality of Salerno and the Chamber of Commercio di Salerno, which will see two winners: the first prize for the best artisan babà and a second prize for the most innovative babà.
