Friday 12st May the departure of the will take place 68th edition of the Three Gulfs Regatta, a historic event that begins in Naples and ends in Sorrento, touching the island of Ponza and the rocks of Li Galli. Organized by Circle of Remo and Sailing Italy of Naples, with the support of Rolex and Loro Piana, the competition is open to Maxi and ORC boats.
For 66 editions, the regatta has followed the tradition of starting at midnight, but in recent years the time has been brought forward to 19:00 and this year it will be moved further to 17:00. This change was made to favor conditions wind and light for the 100 hulls currently registered.
Route and subsequent competitions
After traveling 150 miles beyond Procida, Zannone and Ponza, the boats will return towards "Li Galli" in the Gulf of Salerno and the arrival in Massa Lubrense, in front of the rock of Vervece. Following, from 15 to 18 May, there will be coastal regattas, with the Maxis engaged in the Maxi IMA European Championship.
Among the participants stand out the Swan 80 My Song by Pier Luigi Loro Piana and Cannonball by Dario Ferrari, the latter with a new keel and three feet longer than last year. The competition will also be heated among the other four hulls of the Maxi 72 class, such as Vesper (USA), Proteus (USA), Jethou (GBR) e North Star (GBR).
Both Maxis and ORCs, like last year, will have special treatment in the hospitality villages of their respective ports of call, with breakfast offered by Bourbon coffee every morning and pasta on the quay after the regattas.
Middle and Lower Tyrrhenian National Championship and ORC Mediterranean Champion
From 19 to 21 May it will be the turn of the ORC boats that will battle between the buoys to conquer the Middle and Lower Tyrrhenian National Championship as well as the title of ORC Mediterranean Champion.
