After the terrible fires the Vesuvius road reopens: an excursion on the Gran Cono path leads to the discovery of unique views!

There is a desire for rebirth after the fires that devastated the Vesuvio in the middle of last July. Thus, the August 6th, 2017, a beautiful initiative proposes to rediscover the Vesuvius road with aafternoon excursion on the Gran Cono.

Precisely that of the Gran Cono is theonly path accessible currently. The associations Trentaremi and Vesuvio Natura da Esplorare take advantage of this to make them known wonderful panoramic views that can be enjoyed from the top of the volcano.

The path, which starts from 1000 meters to reach the 1170 meters, allows you to have one privileged perspective on Mount Somma and Colle Umberto, where the Volcanological Observatory is located. We will walk along the stretch that runs alongside the crater, from which we look out on the steaming mouth of Vesuvius.

The route is level easy, along 4 kilometers and lasting two and a half hours. Reservations are required.

What is needed

  • Hiking or gym shoes with sculpted rubber sole
  • Layered clothing with spare mesh and k-way or windproof jacket
  • Backpack with at least one 1,5 L of water and a packed lunch
  • Sunscreen

We also remember that the access road that from via Vesuvio leads to the path leading to the crater was reopened a few days ago to vehicular traffic, but only motor vehicles, cars and minivans up to nine seats can access it. It will be known only in the next few days if the road will be reopened again to buses and heavy vehicles.
