The 2023 Giro d'Italia includes a stage a Naples on May 11th, and the news led to the decision of close some municipal schools in various Municipality. This intervention, part of the municipal plan, includes the closure of institutions in Salerno and other municipalities.
Which schools will close for the 2023 Giro d'Italia?
Beyond the traffic regulation, which will be effective from 10: 30 to 17: 30 or as long as necessary to ensure the safety of athletes, spectators and citizens (find out the traffic device) le public and private schools of all levels, including nursery schools, located in the following Municipalities:
- IV Municipality (4 Municipalities): San Lorenzo, Vicaria, Poggioreale, Industrial Zone;
- VI Municipality (6 Municipalities): San Giovanni-Barra-Ponticelli.
This provision was ordered by Alfonso Ghezzi, head of the Schools Technical Service, following the indications of the Councilor for Education and Families, after a careful examination of the situation.
Security Considerations
The influence of a sporting event of this size on the flow of traffic on the roads in question makes it necessary to limit the movements of students and school staff towards the schools located in the Municipalities involved, to preserve the safety and security of citizens.
Regarding the closure of schools during the Giro d'Italia, Mayor Gaetano Manfredi expressed his point of view:
We have to reconcile the fact that the kids have to go to school with the Giro d'Italia. The offices are working to limit a closure measure to those specific schools that may be affected by the path and where it will perhaps be more difficult to access. All the others will have to go to school, then those who don't want to go to see the Giro d'Italia make their own individual choice.
What happens in the other cities of Campania during the Giro d'Italia?
Not only Napoli will see the closure of schools due to the Giro d'Italia. TO Salerno, for example, schools will remain closed on 10 May 2023, on the occasion of the passage of the Atripalda-Salerno stage. Mayor Vincenzo Napoli has issued a specific ordinance in this regard.
