Naples finally enters the heart of Holy Week, a period that in the city mixes a profound sense of tradition and renewal of the Catholic faith. The Holy thursday and Good Friday (which for this occasion will be called Youth Friday) These are very important days which will see events organized in Naples precisely to give importance to these moments so full of faith.

Here are the initiatives of the Catholic Church in Naples, the times and the route of the Via Crucis.

The events of Holy Thursday: the washing of the feet

Il Holy thursday in Naples it will be marked by a gesture of great symbolism: during the Mass of the Lord's Supper, Msgr. Battaglia will perform the rite of washing of the feet. This is a fundamental act in the Catholic Church, which echoes the one carried out by Jesus with his disciples. On this occasion he will be addressed to family members of victims of violence.

The Archbishop of Naples, through this gesture, intends to reiterate the support and closeness of the Church to people affected by violence, highlighting a message of service and hope that permeates the community.

The events of Good Friday, the Via Crucis

Il Good Friday it will transform into an evening of reflection and creativity for the young people of Naples. At 20:45in Piazza del Gesù, one will take place Way of the cross designed specifically for them. The prayer texts, inspired by the participation of young people in the World Youth Day of Lisbon, will be accompanied by a unique artistic initiative: the project Street Crucis.

During the event, street artist of talent will give life to 14 pictorial works representing the Stations of the Cross, in a fascinating show of live creativity.

The via crucis will start from the Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano and will reach the Church of Santa Caterina in Formiello.

The route will be as follows:

In parallel another smaller demonstration of the Via Crucis will start from San Carlo all'Arena, near via Foria, and will end in Piazza Miracoli.

What is the Street Crucis project

Street Crucis represents an innovative union between the religious tradition of the Via Crucis and the contemporary artistic expression of street art. The project sees the participation of ben 14 artists who, in Piazza del Gesù, will give life to their works on the theme of the Stations of the Cross, contributing to a visual dialogue between faith and urban art.

The artists involved, including Biodipì, Nuru B, and Olivieri Jsd, will work exclusively for free, supported by organizations such as Inward National observatory on urban creativity e Coop4Art. After the event, the works will be exhibited in various locations to be then donated to cultural institutes of Campania.
