Holy Week in Naples, Good Thursday and Friday, the Via Crucis

Naples is finally entering the heart of Holy Week , a period in the city that blends a deep sense of tradition and renewal of the Catholic faith. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday (which for this occasion will be called Youth Friday) are very important days, with events organized in Naples specifically to highlight these moments so steeped in faith.

Here are the initiatives of the Catholic Church in Naples, the times and the route of the Via Crucis.

The events of Holy Thursday: the washing of the feet

Holy Thursday in Naples will be marked by a gesture of great symbolism: during the Mass of the Lord's Supper , Archbishop Battaglia will perform the rite of washing the feet . This is a fundamental act in the Catholic Church, echoing that performed by Jesus with his disciples. On this occasion, it will be addressed to the families of victims of violence.

With this gesture, the Archbishop of Naples intends to reiterate the Church 's support and closeness to those affected by violence , emphasizing a message of service and hope that permeates the community.

The events of Good Friday, the Via Crucis

Good Friday will be an evening of reflection and creativity for the young people of Naples. At 20:45 pm , in Piazza del Gesù , a Stations of the Cross designed especially for them will take place . The prayer texts, inspired by young people's participation in World Youth Day in Lisbon, will be accompanied by a unique artistic initiative: the Street Crucis project.

During the event, talented street artists will create 14 paintings representing the Stations of the Cross, in a fascinating display of live creativity.

The via crucis will start from the Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano and will reach the Church of Santa Caterina in Formiello.

The route will be as follows:

At the same time, another smaller Via Crucis procession will start from San Carlo all'Arena, near Via Foria, and end in Piazza Miracoli.

What is the Street Crucis project

Street Crucis represents an innovative combination of the religious tradition of the Via Crucis and the contemporary artistic expression of street art . The project features 14 artists who, in Piazza del Gesù, will create their works on the theme of the Stations of the Cross, contributing to a visual dialogue between faith and urban art.

The participating artists, including Biodipì , Nuru B , and Olivieri Jsd , will work exclusively free of charge, supported by organizations such as Inward National Observatory on Urban Creativity and Coop4Art . After the event, the works will be exhibited in various locations and then donated to cultural institutions in Campania.
