The precious Egyptian Section of the Archaeological Museum of Naples reopens with thousands of finds and new displays.

Finally, after many years of closure, the Egyptian section of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples will reopen to the public with a series of new productions, thousands of finds, new exhibition routes and a rich educational offer.

As announced by the Perceval Archeostoria website, the inauguration date is scheduled for the 7 October 2016 at 18.30 and tourists and citizens will once again be able to admire what it is the oldest Egyptian collection in Europe, second only to that of Turin as a wealth of finds, also thanks to the many purchases made over the years.

The reopening was announced by the director Paolo Giulierini already in February and is part of a series of initiatives that tend to enhance our National Museum more and more. The inauguration follows the reopening of the Sala dei Oriental Cults and it will be the worthy conclusion of the shows Egypt Pompeii which has been set up in the structure for many months.

The Egyptian section

Specifically, they will be open Egyptian section , Epigraphic section which include well 10 large rooms with more than 1400 finds. The exhibition itinerary will be completely different from the previous one, conceived in the 80s, and was organized by the Museum and the Eastern University of Naples.

First of all, one was set up introductory section which will give us information on the history of the Egyptian area and its vicissitudes, also through the forgeries of the 600s, nineteenth-century casts and testimonies of important collectors.

The exhibits were then divided according to different themes: the grave and his trousseau, Pharaoh and men, religion and magic, mummification, writing and crafts, Egypt and the ancient Mediterranean.
There will be vases, canopi, sarcophagi, mummies, sculptures, stele, statues, plates and much more-

The Epigraphic section

This section collects all the most important and immense collections of inscriptions of the Greek-Roman world for a quantity of thousands of pieces. We can find episodes of daily public and private life like election posters, documents on the games of gladiators, drawings, graffiti on the plaster and these are very important finds found starting from the 600th century.

The documents in Greek date back to the colonies of Southern Italy and also include inscriptions that come from theancient Neapolis, city where Greek was the official language until the fall of the Roman Empire.
There are also inscriptions in pre-Roman languages ​​(such as Volscian and Oscan), bronze plates with texts in Greek and Latin, thin gold leaves from the XNUMXth century BC which belonged to a mystery sect and many other priceless objects and documents.

Educational offer

To accompany visitors, an interesting and engaging educational offer has been designed which includes, for the Egyptian section, one new guide with comic book, especially intended for children. Blasco Pisapia, Neapolitan architect and cartoonist for Disney Italia / Panini, who took care of the creation of the register, created the drawings for the story "Nico and the indissoluble problem ... Egyptian" and helps to implement these innovative ways of using the museum and enhance the works contained.
