In the church of Purgatory in Arco, evening visits to the hypogeum and the museum and tastings to celebrate San Gennaro!
As part of the events for the Feast of San Gennaro 2015 in Naples, the complex of Santa Maria delle Anime of Purgatory in Arco will participate with delle Extraordinary evening guided tours, beyond the ordinary opening hours.
For the occasion it will also be possible to visit the beautiful museum andhypogeum below the second church, the one built as the crow flies under the main one, and make excellent tastings.
The hypogeum and the skull of Lucia
The lower church contains, in the center, an anonymous tomb and from one of the sides it is possible to go through a corridor that leads to the monumental tomb by Giulio Mastrilli, as well as a hypogeum. This is nothing but an underground environment with skulls and in which numerous bodies have been buried. One of the skulls is the famous one ofLucia's soul, girl deceased with her groom during a shipwreck.
In Lucia, for centuries, the inhabitants of Naples have made offers of every kind to obtain graces and intercessions.
Legends and tastings
During the extraordinary visit it will be possible to taste one of the typical products of the Feast of San Gennaro, one of the tastiest in Campania. It is about the lemon biscuit of San Gennaro, dedicated to the Saint.
Furthermore, you will be able to listen to many legends and stories linked to the cult of the Patron, to learn more about such an important figure for the city of Naples.
