The Stars in Capodimonte for the European Researchers' Night: the program of free events

Like every year, this year too the unmissable event will be the European Researchers' Night , the special initiative promoted by the European Commission in 2005 and involving thousands of researchers and research institutions.

For this edition, the day not to be missed will be Friday 29 September 2023 , in fact the Capodimonte Astronomical Observatory will host this edition with the STREETS project coordinated by the University of Naples Federico II.

In particular, the program will be full of activities designed and organized by the Capodimonte Astronomers and the Neapolitan Amateur Astronomers Union , suitable for all those curious and passionate about stars and the celestial vault, both adults and children.

The activities will take place from 18:30 pm to 23:00 pm and admission is free.

Sun Red

• 10 hours: 00-14: 00 Telescope observations of the stars. Edited by Clementina Sasso, Giuliana Russani, Agatino Rifatto and Viola Allevato at the University campus of Monte Sant'Angelo

The Milky Way in 3D

• Journey to the Galaxy with data from the Gaia mission, in search of the most interesting stellar objects for measuring the cosmos

Ultra-diffuse galaxies

• To know the Ultra Diffuse Galaxies edited by Chiara Buttitta, Goran Doll

Hints of life in the universe

• In the heart of the comic physics laboratory where comet dust and interstellar material are studied. Shifts every 30 minutes, max 10 people per shift

Journey through the universe in search of galaxies and gravitational mirages

• Aboard a spaceship to discover Galaxies and gravitational lenses, using observational data and simulations by Crescenzo Tortora, Valerio Busillo and Rossella Ragusa

The universe seen with the VLT Survey Telescope (VST)

• How is this telescope built in Naples made? What is the VST observing from the top of the Chilean Andes? Edited by Enrichetta Iodice

The possible sky

• Astrophotographic exhibition of the most iconic objects in the Neapolitan sky. By the Neapolitan Amateur Astronomers Union

Waiting for the comet

• Discovering the origins of Solar system with Comet Interceptor, the future mission of the European Space Agency

The sky in a room

• Lesson at the planetarium for a virtual journey among the stars, constellations and planets. Four shifts at 19pm-00pm-20pm-00pm max 21 people
