The Leonardo Da Vinci Prysmian, the largest cable-laying ship in the world, arrives in Pozzuoli

This morning 23 March 2022, at 10:00, with the participation of the president of the Campania region Vincenzo De Luca, the mayor of Pozzuoli Vincenzo Figliolia and the CEO of Prysmian Group Valerio Battista, was presented at the port of the city, the Leonardo Da Vinci Prysmian, Or the largest cable-laying vessel in the world.

The ship was built by Vard Group, Fincantieri thanks to a special investment of 170 million euros. In particular, the Leonardo Da Vinci will be used in the submarine interconnection projects and obviously it will be characterized by sophisticated technology.

The company also unveiled its own 1 billion euro investment plan, a plan which by 2024 aims to consolidate its market share of 35-40%.

The Leonardo Da Vinci ship: the characteristics

La Leonardo Da Vinci Prysmian it ranks among the most advanced ships in the world and its name is not accidental, as it pays homage to the great genius Leonardo da Vinci.

Thanks to its characteristics, the ship will allow you to reduce production times and environmental impact. In fact, we remind you that cable-laying vessels are used in the laying of submarine cables, as well as for the transport of energy.

The ship it is about 170 meters long with a width of about 34 meters and its features are:

  • Capable of installation in deep water to more than 3000 meters
  • Maximum speed over 14 knots
  • 2 carousels of 7000 and 10000 tons
  • Two independent laying lines
  • Towing force greater than 180 tons
  • State-of-the-art DP3 systems for positioning and sea keeping
  • Engine with reduced environmental impact

Indeed, one of the objectives of the company is precisely that of slow down global warming which obviously has a negative impact on all living things.
