A human chain to embrace the archaeological excavations of Pompeii and save them from decay and abandonment
Next will be held 4 May 2014 il first flashmob to save Pompeii from the decay, abandonment and neglect especially by institutions and citizens who demonstrate anything but respect for their historical and archaeological heritage, as well as Italian heritage protected by Unesco.
Recent thefts, havoc, acts of vandalism, collapses and lack of maintenance, have pushed the associations "Be a tourist of your city", "Terra e Dignità" and the "Pompeii is mine" Committee, to organize the initiative "Let's embrace Pompeii", the first act of true love towards our territory, to send a strong signal to the authorities on the deep bond that unites us to our past.
The meeting is scheduled for Sunday 4 May in Pompeii at 10: 30, where a real life will come to life human chain around the Archaeological excavations.
These are the reasons that led organizers to prepare the mobilization:
“We have in Campania the second Italian archaeological site (actually the first if we consider that the Colosseum and the Forum constitute a complex). The excavations of Pompeii, a world heritage site, have fallen into a continuum of collapses and thefts. Just a few weeks ago, unknown persons removed a fresco from the site. Public opinion and citizens are outraged but the protest must take to the streets. The time has come to mobilize. The appeal is aimed in particular at the contemporary generation who must take action to safeguard the past."
An appointment not to be missed and to which everyone should participate, to take part in the first strong symbolic gesture of respect and civic commitment to our history and our treasure. An essential step to obtain respect from those who should take care of the enhancement of our artistic and cultural heritage but who do not assume their responsibilities.
“Pompeii is the symbol of our territory, of our riches that we see dying, helpless, under the blows of the Italian management to say the least criminal. We do not expect to one day have to cry over its rubble. We save Pompeii, Pompeii we are".
