The registry office of the Municipality of Naples located atCapodichino Airport, which deals with the renewal of the dexpired documents for departing travellers, closed on Thursday 20 April due to the depletion of “empty ID cards” paper sent by the Ministry of the Interior. This caused considerable inconvenience for many travelers in the run-up to the April 25 bridge.

The suspension of the service

Il City of Naples announced the suspension of the service via its website, apologizing for the discomfort and promising to notify users as soon as service can be restored. Agostino Anselmi (Cisl Fp) explains that the Municipality had promptly requested the new identity cards from the Ministry of the Interior, but these have not yet arrived.

The municipal administration is working for reopen the office by Sunday 23 April, recovering some empty identity cards from the registry offices of the Municipalities. But the problem may persist in the future. Anselmi he affirms that the problem does not depend on the municipal administration, but on the orientation of the Ministry of the Interior to limit the release of paper documents.

In the future, citizens will have to request renewals of electronic identity cards in good time. Anselmi proposes the opening of a point dedicated to issuing electronic cards at Capodichino airport: "There are plans to open a station at Capodichino airport for issuing this type of card".
