Johnny Depp, after experiencing a dark period due to the trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, returns to the 2023 Cannes Film Festival as a winner. The sixty-year-old actor masterfully interpreted the role of King Louis XV in the film "Jeanne du Barry", which yesterday, in addition to the event, was previewed in all French cinemas.

Return as a winner for Johnny Depp, which on Tuesday 16 May 2023, during the opening of the seventy-sixth edition of Cannes Festival, was welcomed by the audience with a real standing ovation. A success across the board for the former pirate of the Caribbean after the dark period caused by trial of ex-wife Amber Heard and in which he was falsely accused of domestic violence.

Not only that: during the first day of Cannes 2023 it was premiered Jeanne duBarry, the historical costume film that tells the story of the last great mistress of a French king, Madame du Barry (and of his tragic end under the blade of the guillotine), and in which Depp starred King Louis XV. An interpretation which, in addition to relaunching it in grand style in the world of cinema, was seen and appreciated in all French cinemas, where yesterday the film was screened simultaneously together with Cannes.

Who are the other stars who took turns on the red carpet at Cannes 2023

Besides Johnny Depp, yesterday on the red carpet of Cannes 2023 they marched Uma Thurman with a red queen's cape ed Helen Mirren, which for the occasion has decided to amaze everyone with a look from Elsa of Frozen. After the ceremony and the credits of Jeanne duBarry, all the stars and insiders went to the Carlton hotel to continue the festivities. The hotel, which was closed for two years for renovations, was thus able to embrace the bel monde again.

However, the real star of the evening was Michael Douglas, which received the honorary Palme D'Or. The actor, 78, was called by Chiara Mastroianni on stage to receive the award and was accompanied by his wife Catherine-Zeta Jones and his daughter Carys.

Douglas, after ironically saying that he is the oldest of the Cannes Film Festival, thanked everyone and wanted to comment on the past:

“It's a pleasure to come here among all these people who come for the love of cinema. We had a terrible epidemic, like a war, and all of you, the crowds of this festival show us that cinema can transcend limits and bring human beings together, the whole world is here, and it is a privilege to be among you.”

Here are some names of those present:

  • Uma Thurman
