The works of the Sansevero Chapel
Il Veiled Christ is the most famous and prestigious work of the Sansevero Chapel, it was created by Giuseppe Sanmartino in 1753 and is unique in the world as it was created by a single piece of marble. It represents Jesus lying on a mattress with his body covered with an even transparent veil, a shroud made from the same piece of marble as the rest of the statue. The veil adheres to the body perfectly and is so incredible that over time one was born legend which tells that initially it was a piece of real cloth then transformed into marble with a chemical device by Prince Raimondo di Sangro, who commissioned the work.
The other masterpieces of the museum are the Statues of Virtues, among which those of Modesty and Disillusionment stand out, in addition to anatomical machines, two bodies of which you can see the inside with the whole circulatory system in detail.
