Will take place from 7 to 9 and 27 September 2023, At Villa Lysis and Ignazio Cerio Center in Capri, the third edition of CapriArt*, or the Gender Avant-Garde Festival. It is a project that was born in 2021 inspired by the figure of the English journalist Henry Wreford, lived in Capri until his death, and strongly engaged in the fight against gender, skin, sex inequalities.
The Festival will be directed by Mauro Joy and this third edition will have the great artist as its muse Edmonia Lewis, the first black woman to achieve major milestones in the art world. But that's not all, because the other three shows scheduled will instead be dedicated to three other important personalities, namely: Luigi Settembrini, Truman Capote and Caroline Shaw.
The show program
7 Settembre
The first date opens with the show The Neoplatonists di Louis Settembrini, text interpreted in an abridged version by Maximum Greenish, accompanied by the sweet sound of the harp of Gianluca Rovinello and music from Nino Rota's Satyricon.
It is a short homoerotic story, found in 1937 in the National Library of Naples and published posthumously in 1977.
8 Settembre
Second appointment with Garden Party, show organized by the Company Kulturscio'k by Alessia Siniscalchi. It will be a site-specific improvisation with live music, inspired by the scandalous work of Cote Basque by Truman Capote and the short story Kindred spirits. The work will be interpreted by the voice of Paul Spera and Alessia Siniscalchi and by Sean O'Callaghan.
9 Settembre
Third appointment with the show wildfire, written by Giuditta Borelli and dedicated to Edmonia Lewis, great artist and first black and gender female sculptor in history. It will be an intense show in which the life and works of this great woman will be told, and the problems she had to face during her life because of the color of her skin.
27 Settembre
Last appointment with the concert by the Ombra Felice string quartet Béatrice Muthelet and with the singer Noëmi Waysfeld. The show will be dedicated to an American composer, that is Caroline Shaw.
