Payment by debit card Maestro circuit

Beware of ATMs with Maestro and V-Pay circuits: the cashback will not be refunded if used in contactless mode.

Some are emerging problems relating to the reimbursement of the cashback initiative regarding i holders of cards with Maestro and V-Pay circuits. In fact, as stated by the PagoPA company that manages the IO app, which is used for a series of services including the activation of cashback, payments made through the Maestro and V-Pay circuits they are not accounted for for reimbursement purposes.

It is a temporary discomfort because from January, when the cashback trial period ends and the service is fully operational, the problem will disappear. At the moment, however, due to the momentary lack of agreement with these circuits, problems arise.

Maestro and V-Pay circuits: no refunds for contactless payments

To understand why this problem has arisen with co-badge cards, which have both the Pagobancomat circuit and an international circuit such as Maestro and V-Pay, we must refer to the operating mechanism of the codes associated with them.

First of all though, let's remember that dual-circuit cards must be registered both via the circuit wizard Pagobancomat either through the procedure provided for debit cards, credit e prepaid (where it is possible to associate the second circuit, such as Maestro and V-Pay, which we remember at the moment are not recognized). In addition, they must also be enabled for online payments.

At these cards I am associated with two PAN codes, that is card numbers, with relative circuit symbol. The code associated with Maestro and V-Pay is generally used automatically by the POS when you pay in contactless mode to accept the transaction. Considering that, as mentioned, these two circuits are not yet recognized by the IO app, the refund will not take place.

How to solve: contactless payment

To remedy the problem, it is necessary to ask the merchant to make the payment with the Pagobancomat e without contactless mode, therefore with the typical "swiped”Of the card or with yours insertion in the POS.

The PagoPa company assures that a new version of the IO app will be released from 2021 and these problems will disappear.
