Extreme Tour in Città della Scienza in Naples: discovering extremophiles

 In Città della Scienza in Naples the online inauguration of the new Extreme Tour route: the new exhibition will lead you to the discovery of extremophiles!

On Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., the new Extreme Tour itinerary will be inaugurated at Città della Scienza , from the Greeks to the glories of the Grand Tour in search of life on Mars . This will be an incredible exhibition that will take you on a wonderful journey through art and science.

The event will be held entirely online and will feature the participation of the President of the IDIS-Città della Scienza Foundation, Professor Riccardo Villari, the Campania Region Councilor for Administrative Simplification and Tourism, Felice Casucci, and many others.

Extreme Tour: From the Greeks, to the glories of the Grand Tour in search of life on Mars

The common thread running through the entire exhibition will be extremophiles, recently discovered microorganisms that have the ability to survive and proliferate in truly extreme environmental conditions , as their name suggests.

The adventure will begin in the Phlegraean Fields , where research on these microorganisms began, conducted by the CNR and the University of Naples Federico II . You will learn all about the characteristics of these organisms, the places where they live, and the richness of the territories that host them.

The public, directly from their own homes, will be able to put on the scientist's clothes firsthand thanks to an immersive physical/virtual ecosystem of extreme environments: Campi Flegrei, Antarctica and Yellowstone Park.
