Processions, songs, dances and gastronomy will characterize the Festival of the Madonna delle Galline 2016 in Pagani!
The 3 April 2016 si will play the traditional Feast of Our Lady of the hens at Pagani, in the province of Salerno.
The procession has ancient origins and it is said that some hens, scratching, found a small wooden table on which the Madonna del Carmine was depicted. The image performed eight miracles and the Madonna was renamed “delle Galline” and a sanctuary was built in her honor.
The party, which has religious and civil moments, begins with the opening of the door of the sanctuary and proceeds through the streets of the town, marked by the sound of the tammorre and the castagnette and from the characteristic exchange of hens and other birds brought as gifts. The balconies and courtyards, called toselli, are adorned with drapes and balloons.
For the occasion, gods are prepared typical dishes which i tagliolini with meat sauce with which you have to stain (splash) the shirt, the tortano, Casatiello and roasted artichokes, cooked in the traditional way furnacella.
This evocative celebration is organized by the NOMEDIA Association which works for the conservation and recovery of local traditions.
