Bad news coming from the historian Metropolitan Cinema of Naples, for a few days in fact, between Via Chiaia and San Pasquale, there have been rumors about the its possible closure. This news comes from a crisis which is nothing more than the result of two years of pandemic, in which, given the restrictions, cinemas, as well as many other structures, have had to close to the public. To this already critical situation were then added the high cost of living, war and high bills.

The Metropolitan Cinema of Naples may therefore soon close the doors and leave employees on the street. This is what we hear, but il Mattino interviewed Luigi Grispello, director of the Metropolitan, Filangieri and America Hall who explained his version.

The words of Luigi Grispello, director of Cinema

Interviewed by Mattino, Louis Grispello, let it be known that the news of the crisis is true, and that the Metropolitan could close to the public, as well as “they could close all the cinemas in Naples“. In fact, from 2019 to today, cinema halls are attended by less than 50% of spectators, and to date the fate of the cinemas would derive from the Christmas takings and from the aid that should be received from the State.

As Grispello says, for the America Hall in Vomero it has decided to suspend the rent for more than three years in order to improve the situation, while the Sofia in Pozzuoli has been closed permanently. The Metropolitan will still remain open for the moment and we will proceed with normal programming, hoping for Christmas takings, aid from the Region and the State and a more fortunate 2023 for the resumption of cinemas throughout Italy.
