Finally, the Vivara Island in Procida reopens to the public with guided tours of the nature reserve!

After years of waiting and bureaucratic adventures, the island of Vivara, nature reserve in the Phlegraean area belonging to Procida, will reopen definitively on 8 April 2017.

The islet has undergone several changes to make public visits safe and comfortable. First, it was secured the passage on the bridge which connects Vivara to the island of Procida, with the raising of the railing by over ten centimeters to make it up to standard and to facilitate safe passage. Besides, it was eliminated the gate in via Santa Margherita, which for forty years prohibited public access to the bridge itself.

The island can be visited on its main paths, but you are looking for an agreement with Suor Orsola Benincasa to make it again also the archaeological excavations can be visited dating back to the Mycenaean period.

Guided tours

Le Guided tours will take place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the public, while all other days will be reserved for school children. Tickets will go to the municipal coffers and a part will be donated to the Albano Francescano foundation.
