From 16 March to 9 May 2023, Caravaggio's work entitled The Flagellation of 1607 will be on display at the Royal Palace of Naples. The event is part of the exhibition “Dialogues around Caravaggio. Works from Capodimonte to Palazzo Reale”, after being presented together with the homonymous work of 1607 conserved at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen in the exhibition “Caravage, un coup de fouet”.

The Flagellation by Caravaggio is the centerpiece of the exhibition, since, although it is not part of the royal collections, it has greatly influenced the course of the art of Seventeenth century, with a particularly significant impact on Neapolitan painting.

This exhibition, curated by Mario Epifani e Sylvain Bellenger, kicks off a collaboration between the Royal Palace of Naples and the Museo e Real Bosco of Capodimonte. The main objective is to start a dialogue between the art collections of the two museums, the result of Bourbon collecting between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
