Starting from Friday 22 July 2022 and for eight appointments until 30 July, San Carlo Theater of Naples will go on stage La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi under the direction of Ferzan Ozpetek. The maestro will direct the Orchestra and Chorus of the San Carlo Theater Francesco Ivan Ciampa.
It will be the last show of the San Carlo summer season and therefore it will be an event not to be missed. On stage an exceptional cast, consisting of:
- Pretty Yende who will give face and voice to Violetta Valery and Claudia Pavone on 23, 28, 28 and 30 July;
- Daniela Mazzucato will be Annina;
- Francesco Demuro will be Alfredo Germont on 22, 24, 27 and 29 July, Francesco Castoro on 23 26, 28 and 30 July;
- George Gagnidze will be Giorgio Germont on 22 and 24 July, Gabriele Viviani on 27 and 29 July, Ernesto Petti 23, 26, 28 and 30 July.
The staging was curated by Dante Ferretti, while the costumes by Alessandro Lai.
The plot of La Traviata
The story tells of Violetta Valery, or a Parisian courtesan, and hers love story with Alfredo, for which he decides to change his life and move with him to the countryside. Everything is going well, until she comes to visit Germont, Alfredo's father who asks her to leave her son.
Violetta lets herself be convinced and leaves Alfredo, after a series of unpleasant episodes, Violetta falls ill with consumption and after receiving an apology from Alfredo, he lets himself die.
Events for young people
There will be several events dedicated to young people on the occasion of the staging of La Traviata:
Fresh at San Carlo, 26, 27 and 29 July
- An initiative dedicated to the under 30s, it will be a La Traviata themed aperitif that will take place at the Cafè of the San Carlo Theater, including the vision of the show. The cost of the whole evening is 25 euros.
Special visits from 22 to 30 July
- Special guided tours with La Traviata themed aperitif. The price is 15 euros.
Young people approaching the Opera with Art Bonus
- All the students who participated in the workshops of Officine San Carlo will be able to attend the show on July 26th at 20:00.
