At Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples you can hunt for shooting stars accompanied by a free concert of mandolins for the Night of San Lorenzo 2018.
Attention: differently from the first program sent to us by the Municipality, the event has been moved from Capodimonte to Piazza del Plebiscito.
On Friday, August 10, 2018 , the night of San Lorenzo , the event is in Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples to admire the starry sky and attend the concert "Mandolins Under the Stars." The sweet and evocative sound of the mandolin, the very symbol of Naples, will accompany the audience until late in this highly evocative free concert .
The event, like every year, will take place in Piazza del Plebiscito. Initially, as planned, it was planned at Capodimonte but later the municipality changed location back to the historical one.
The night of August 10th is associated with the passage of the Perseid meteor shower , a phenomenon which, combined with the clarity of the summer sky, makes this night perfect for hunting for shooting stars.
Completing the evening will be members of the Neapolitan Amateur Astronomers Union who will guide the audience in observing shooting stars, explaining why they are called that and answering many other questions . Furthermore, weather permitting, they will also observe the stars and planets visible during this period , from west to east: Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars.
