At the Church of Santa Maria Egiziaca in Pizzofalcone in Naples, Sunday May 21, 2023 starting at 20:00 there will be an unmissable event guided tour with musical show. It is an event organized by the cultural association NarteA, which has always been committed to promoting our territory with many interesting events.

The evening will begin with a special guided tour of one of the most important basilica churches in Naples and will end with the wonderful musical show entitled Mater Maggese with Francesco Viglietti, who will be accompanied on the piano by the maestro Luigi Tirozzi.

To participate in the evening it will be necessary make a reservation to the numbers 339.7020849 – 333.3152415 and with part of the proceeds obtained from the evening they will be carried out restoration for the statue of the Madonna present in the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

The history of the Church of Santa Maria Egiziaca

Founded in the early seventeenth century on Pizzofalcone hill, and for this then known under this title, the Church of Santa Maria Egiziaca it is dedicated to the saint venerated as the patroness of repentant prostitutes.

In particular, the idea was born from five Augustinian nuns and from their desire to detach themselves from the monastery of Santa Egiziaca in Forcella, to lead a cloistered life. The church was founded inside an ancient sixteenth-century building, then subsequently subjected to various transformations by architects Cosimo Fanzago, Francesco Antonio Picchiatti and Arcangelo Guglielmelli.

Inside, the Church houses wonderful works belonging to the greatest exponents of the Neapolitan Baroque painting.
