Guided night tours in the center of Naples to discover monuments, churches, museums such as the Roman theater of Anticaglia, the church of Sant'Aniello in Caponapoli, the Church of Purgatory in Arco and many other places

With the arrival of summer it will be even more pleasant to carry out cultural guided tours in our city, even taking advantage of the pleasure of walking after sunset in some of the most fascinating streets in the world.

Naples offers many opportunities to discover monuments, churches, streets, squares, museums and many associations that take care of taking visitors around the city. The CuriociTour it was a good example, as was the Food and Art Tour, which combined the cultural visit with the enogastronomic one.

From the 6 Juneinstead, a cycle of night-time guided tours will start again, conceived by the literary café Intra Moenia in collaboration with dell 'Neapolitan Cultural Heritage Association, engaged for some time in the enhancement of the priceless historical-artistic-cultural heritage of our city.

Every Friday, until 11 July 2014, will be organized night visits at the monuments that will also be opened in extraordinary vi. The meeting point will be, every time, the Intra Moenia coffee from where, after having sipped an aperitif and received as a gift a map or a book, we will leave for the guided tour.

Program guided evening tours to the historic center of Naples

June 6, 2014 - Church of Sant'Aniello in Caponapoli

The first appointment will be dedicated to the visit of the church of Sant'Aniello in Caponapoli, located near the ancient Acropolis of Neapolis and whose origins are to be found in the fifth century BC, when the Greek colonists moved to that area, abandoning the area. of Palepolis, between Monte Echia and Pizzofalcone.
It is dedicated to the first Bishop of Naples and was enlarged in 1500 and modernized in 1700. After having suffered the bombings of the Second World War and the earthquake of 1980, for many years it was closed and denied to the public. After a long restoration it was reopened and it is possible to visit it inside, but also to admire the fascinating archaeological finds found: remains of the ancient Greek Greek walls that marked the boundary of ancient Neapolis and that are located in the center of the nave and in the transept.

13 June 2014 - Roman Theater of Anticaglia

We will visit the ancient Roman theater of Anticaglia, located between via Anticaglia, via San Paolo ai Tribunali and vico Giganti. The entrance to the site is still possible from Apoikia, the society of archaeologists who, with the collaboration of the Samoa Company, takes care of the monument and will allow its nocturnal visit. Inside it will be possible to admire the ambulatories, the support wedges of the steps, the "vomitorium", that is one of the access corridors to the theater, and the remains of the cavea. It is believed that in this theater the Emperor Nero performed with his lyre.
For security reasons the visit will be allowed only to 50 people divided into two groups of 25. Reservation required.
The visit will also be repeated on 11 July.

June 20 - Basilica of San Giovanni Maggiore

During this visit, you can discover the beautiful Basilica of San Giovanni Maggiore, one of the oldest in Naples and that for many years has been closed to the public. Not only will it be possible to admire its architectural and artistic beauty, but also to discover the cult of San Giovanni, which for the Neapolitans has always been placed between the sacred and the profane.
We also remember that inside it was set up an exhibition dedicated to Eduardo De Filippo which will last until the end of June.

June 27 - Church of the Purgatory in Arco

This Friday we will visit the church of Purgatory in Arco, with the cult of pezzentelle souls, in via dei Tribunali. Built in the XNUMXth century, it is one of the most representative churches of the Neapolitan Baroque and is strongly linked to the cult of the souls in Purgatory. The construction of the facade anticipates the popular cult of the so-called pezzentelle souls, because it is rich in funerary motifs, skulls and crossbones in bronze. Motifs that will be found inside, especially in the hypogeum where there are the "scarabattoli", wooden boxes containing human bones for the most part anonymous, sepulchral niches and burials in the earth.
Among these bones, the locus of Lucia stands out, covered by the bridal veil and symbol of the church and of this religiosity.

July 4 - Hermann Nitsch Museum

We will take a walk in Pontecorvo and visit the Hermann Nitsch Museum. It is a very particular path that leads from ancient to contemporary, which winds through narrow streets, alleys, stairs, churches and aristocratic palaces. The guides will tell the story of the neighborhood by leading those present to Piazza Dante, crossing Salita Tarsia and Salita Pontecorvo. We will discover the church of San Giuseppe and Palazzo Tarsia, to reach the Nitsch Museum, dedicated to the work of the Austrian master, protagonist of contemporary art with his provocative and irreverent performances.

11 July - Roman Theater of Anticaglia

The visit of 13 June to the Roman Theater of Anticaglia will be repeated.
