In the neighborhoods of Rione Sanità, Fuorigrotta e Old Town of Naples, special votive aedicules have recently been installed, dedicated to one of the most iconic female characters in the videogame world: the Princess Zeldafrom the Nintendo video game series of the same name. These works have been created in view of the imminent launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, available from May 12 for Nintendo Switch and Switch Oled.

Neapolitan urban art meets the world of video games

The votive shrines of Zelda they represent a curious interpretation of Neapolitan urban art and are the result of collaboration between the artists Zeal Off e They Live. The latter had already gained notoriety in 2021 with the stencils of the unstructured "Napoli" writing by Mc Connell, created at the age of 35 from the originals on the initiative of Mirella Barracco's Fondazione Napoli Novantanove.

Le votive kiosks they are inspired by the typical altars of the city, some with a religious background and others not, such as those dedicated to Diego Armando Maradona. The installations portray the image of the princess and were inaugurated in conjunction with the Comicon Naples, scheduled at the Mostra d'Oltremare from 28 April to 1 May.

Zelda: symbol of light, wisdom and hope

The choice of Zelda as the subject of the votive shrines is linked to its role as a symbol of light, wisdom e hope. Present since the debut of the saga in 1986 on the Nintendo Entertainment System, the princess has regained popularity thanks to the success of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, released in 2017 and which has become one of the most popular titles on the Switch platform.

Six years later, the sequel is on its way The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which will introduce a new gameplay dynamic focused on the exploration of floating lands above the kingdom of Hyrule.
