The need not to lose one's job is alive today more than ever and this is demonstrated by the history of Giuseppina that, to keep the post of janitor in a northern high school, he doesn't hesitate, every day, to cover 1.600 km and go from Naples to Milan by train. The reason? In the Lombard capital, life is too expensive and the mere janitor's salary would not be enough. His words in an interview with "The day".
Giuseppina: from Naples to Milan round trip for work as a janitor in a high school
Giuseppina is a Neapolitan woman who found work in a Milanese high school as janitor. It is a pity that, however, her economic resources and her janitor's salary do not allow her to rent a house in Milan and be able to afford to manage the daily expenses as well. And so, the woman he travels about 1.600 km a day by train to get to work on timeeven if you don't have to give up.
It's 4 in the morning when the alarm goes off at the home of Giuseppina and her parents. Time to get ready and she leaves for the central station where the woman will take the fast train to Milan. And it's there 18:20 when the shift ends and, again, she gets on the train which, this time, will take her back to Naples, where she will arrive just before midnight. Here is Josephine has breakfast and dinner on the train: her schedule prevents her from being able to do otherwise! THE costs to be incurred to live in Milan would be excessive and the concrete risk would be that of having to weigh on the family: and Giuseppina doesn't want to risk that happening!
And so continues to commute between Naples and Milan without, however, giving upgoal of finding a house in Milan that is compatible with his availability cheap. The school is also helping her with her research.
Josephine's words
What strikes are the Josephine's words who accepts this status as a "long-range commuter" in order to have the job security.
How do you do it with a monthly salary of just over a thousand euros? Life in Milan is too expensive. Better to spend 400 euros a month on the train, much less than a simple shared room. Even in the suburbs, rental prices are no joke, not to mention life which in the North has a higher cost than in the South
And then the woman continues:
on balance I realized that between rent, bills and groceries I would have used up all of my salary if I moved to live in the North and most likely I would have to ask my family to help me. I know it seems crazy to me but doing the math I evaluated that economically it suits me.
Giuseppina's hope is far from dying and it is she herself who firmly reiterates, at the end of the interview, that until he finds accommodation suitable for his possibilities will proudly continue to do so!
The possibility that it is fake news
Many, after the publication, have done some calculations because the news has something bizarre, beyond all the quality of life of the woman is quite low.
There are those who claim to have contacted the school, discovering that the janitor absolutely does not go to work every day
It took me one phone call to find out she did it twice and then went on extra paid leave. Although she had been offered accommodation not far from the school.

Someone does not add up, both economic and time.
Does the commuter janitor have a family that works for Trenitalia? Because otherwise the room in Milan was better for her or the whole story remains to be verified. https://t.co/WHUgunfTIM pic.twitter.com/6YynhWyyZl
