At the Teatro Grande in Pompeii the second edition of “Pompeii Theatrum Mundi”, the review of ancient dramaturgy in the most evocative setting in the world with four performances taken from classical works.

After the success of2017 edition come back, al Great Theater of Pompeii, the review of ancient drama Pompeii Theatrum Mundi. The second edition of the event will be held 21 from June to July 21 2018 and represents a four-year project edited by the Stable Theater of Naples - National Theater and Pompeii Archaeological Park.

Il program 2018 of the event provides the staging of four shows taken from four famous classical works, which will allow viewers to relive the magical atmosphere of ancient theater on a stage of the second century BC, in the most evocative scenery in the world.

Salomè

Luca De Fusco brings the classic myth of Salomè, set in Roman and not Greek, so perfect for its representation at Great Theater of Pompeii. The director, director of the Teatro Stabile di Napoli, offers a rereading of the masterpiece of Oscar Wilde mixing theater, dance, music, cinema together. On stage the actors Eros Pagni, Gaia Aprea and Anita Bartolucci in the roles of Herod, Salome and Herodias. The show is the absolute premiere.

July 5th - 7th 2018

Opedipus Rex

directed by Robert Wilson

The famous American director Bob Wilson leads to Great Theater of Pompeii his new show Oedipus Rex, freely taken from the classic masterpiece of Sofocle. Oedipus Rex is a site specific project for the Olympic Theatre of Verona by Andrea Palladio, where Edipo Re he was represented in the 1585, with the scenographies of the great architect Vincenzo Scamozzi. This great theatrical event will unite, therefore, two classic scenographic spaces, unique in the world.
Matter, space, light and a scenic writing that cancels the boundaries between theater, dance, music and figurative art, are the main aspects of Bob Wilson's show as, moreover, his artistic signature.

Not just Medea

Il Ballet National de Marseille (National Ballet of Marseille) tells, through the language of dance, a tragedy of our time, set in the ruins of the destroyed city of Pompeii.
I two choreographers, Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten, were inspired by the characters and themes of some masterpieces of classical Greek tragedy, such as Oedipus and Antogone by Sophocles, Medea and the Bacchae of Euripides, to narrate a contemporary tragedy: that of the human race that is preparing for the future.

July 19th - 21th 2018

Heracles

Directed by Emma Dante

The famous Sicilian director Emma Dante investigate inHeracles of Euripides in search of the female part in a male body, in search of the reasons and desires of power that, probably, may have to do with human frailty.
Emma Dante tries here to "To reverse the canonical codes of the Greek theater, where men played women's roles, entrusting men with roles as men instead".
On stage, one develops drama of madness, the one that strikes and drags into the dust the hero benefactor of humanity par excellence, which is Heracles.
