The splendid Basilica San Giovanni Maggiore in Naples will host, every Friday evening, a series of concerts until February 2014
La Basilica of San Giovanni Maggiore it is one of the most important churches in Naples and one of the jewels of the city. In 2012, after more than 42 years of closure and following long restoration work, it has been reopened to the public and contains within it a series of works and chapels of considerable historical and artistic value.
The Basilica, at the end of 2011, was entrusted to the Foundation of the Order of Engineers of Naples also in conjunction with the Jubilee for Naples which was then called by Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe. Opportunity, that, exploited to redevelop a monument among the most beautiful and ancient of Naples, seeking the involvement of citizens.
To give a greater incentive to the rebirth of the Basilica, a concert program which will take place every Friday until the end of February 2014 and which will see musicians of great value perform, such as the S.Pietro a Majella string quartet, the MelisMandolin Quartet or the Young Chamber Orchestra.
Furthermore, it should be noted that every Thursday and Friday, from 10 in the morning to 17, including the Fridays when the concerts will take place (but starting at 19.30), there will be Volunteers Touring for the Cultural Heritage of Naples, who are involved in the Open for You project. This is an initiative that has received the High Patronage of the Presidency of the Republic for "the commitment dedicated to the enhancement of sites otherwise removed from public access" and the volunteers will guide visitors in a guided tour of the Basilica.
