Il new film by Paolo Sorrentino, It was the hand of God, will be the film that will represent Italy to the Oscar 2022 in the foreign films category.

This was the decision of the selection commission of ANICA (National Association of Multimedia Audiovisual Film Industries) at the request of the Academy, which chose among 18 nominations for films distributed in Italy or expected to be released by December 31 of this year.

All the nominations that include the 5 films included in the same category will be officially announced on February 8, 2022, while the Oscars ceremony will take place on March 27th.

Sorrentino's new film set in Naples

La new work by Paolo Sorrentino is set in Naples and will arrive on Netflix in December. It is a semi-autobiographical feature film that the director decided to shoot in his beloved city to tell the story of a boy from the 80s.

Fabietto, the protagonist, recalls the young Sorrentino and his family experiences, even dramatic ones, such as the death of his parents in an accident, and his hopes for the future between tragedies and joys.

In the film we will perceive the passions that were also of Sorrentino and inevitably the influence of the great Diego Armando Maradona in the Neapolitans of the 80s, as can also be seen from the title. Influence that will also be decisive the fate of Fabietto.

The cast of the film

Among the protagonists we find Toni Servillo, a regular in Sorrentino's films, Teresa Saponangelo, Filippo Scotti in the role of Fabietto, Luisa Ranieri, Massimiliano Gallo, Enzo Decario, Lino Musella, Renato Carpentieri, Sofya Gershevich and Betti Pedrazzi.
