The mystery of the fourth painting by Caravaggio painted in Naples
According to some written testimonies, as a credit faith found among the payment coupons of the Banco di Napoli Historical Archives, a painting by the art dealer Radolovich was commissioned to Caravaggio, an unscrupulous man. A work whose subject, a Madonna with a child in her arms, was considered mediocre by the artist. But according to the credit faith this work was paid in advance by Radolovich with 200 ducati.
What happened to the fourth picture of Caravaggio ever to be found in Naples? Some hypotheses show that it was never realized, or that it probably became part of Seven works of Mercy. Other hypotheses, however, seem to confirm that the picture is in Vienna, where a Madonna of the Rosary corresponds to the characteristics of the commission of Radolovich.
