The exhibition "Treasures under the lapilli" in Pompeii will show furnishings, frescoes and jewels from the famous Casa del Bracelet in the Insula Occidentalis!

From 11 September 2017 to 31 March 2018 at the Antiquarium of the Pompeii excavations, the exhibition will be held treasures under the lapilli: furnishings, frescoes and jewels from the Insula Occidentalis.

The exhibition will offer the public the opportunity to admire some of the gods rich furnishings and wall paintings of one of the most famous houses of the grandiose complex of urban villas of Insula Occidentalis: the House of the Golden Bracelet.

This house is closed to the public for decades and currently it cannot be visited due to restoration and enhancement interventions that will ensure that the whole complex can be reopened.

The location

The insula Occidentalis is the district at the western end of the ancient city and is located on four panoramic terraces that reach out to the sea.

Among the urban villas that are part of the complex and certainly belonged to wealthy patricians, the most famous are the house of the library, the house of Fabio Rufo, the house of Castricio and finally the house of the gold bracelet that owes its name to a large gold bracelet weighing 610 g worn by one of the victims who tried to escape from the volcanic eruption.

These villas are part of a restoration project which aims not only at securing buildings, but also at enhancing them through visit paths that will allow the public to know the wonderful frescoes and decorations.
