The Pfizer-Biontech vaccine against Covid-19 will also arrive in Italy with at least 27 million doses.

"The one developed by Biontech / Pfizer is the most promising vaccine so far”Is what was declared by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen regarding the vaccine developed by the collaboration between the USA and Germany. That's why another good news is theassignment, to Italy, of about 27 million doses.

Franco Locatelli, president of the Superior Health Council, said that the first doses could arrive as early as mid-January 2021 and which, of course, will be distributed first to health workers, law enforcement agencies and the weakest sections of the population.

Distribution of the vaccine

The agreement with the European EU is divided into two parts. The first talks about the supply of 200 million doses with the option of an additional 100 million, all to be distributed in the various countries according to very specific criteria. For this reason, Italy is entitled to 13,51% of the quota (200 million), therefore about 27 million doses. Which go up to 40 million if we also consider the 100 million of the option.

The division is made by calculating the population of each Member State in relation to the total inhabitants of the EU.

Once in Italy, the vaccine will have to be distributed to the population, but it will not be easy because it needs to a lot of attention in transport and storage. In fact, it must be kept constantly at 80 degrees below zero. Another delicate factor concerns the administration because, to be effective, the vaccine should be administered in two times, at a distance of one week from each other.

In any case, good roads are finally opening up in the fight against Coronavirus and we must try to make the most of them.
