The guided tour of the Pharmacy of the Incurables will make you discover a historical place, prosperous in art and science
The association "Il Faro di Hippocrates" has organized for Saturday 9 May 2015, a guided tour of the Monumental and Architectural Complex of the Incurable, including the historic Pharmacy and the Museum of Health Arts.
The complex, in Renaissance style, was built by the will of the noble Maria Lorenza Longo, which was paralyzed by a poison and was treated by the doctors of the hospital of the Incurable, defined with this name precisely because it housed patients who had contracted contagious and mostly incurable diseases.
The route of the visit includes four important stages. The first will be at Pharmacy of the Incurable, built in the 700s by Bartolomeo Vecchione and which preserves furnishing objects and medical products of the time. We will continue and stop at the Cloister of the Hospital of Santa Maria del Popolo degli Incurabili (characterized by the presence of a camphor tree, which purified the air), and then visit the Museum of Health Arts and the Orto de 'Semplici, where medical herbs were grown to prepare simplex medicine. Unfortunately, however, it is not entirely accessible.
A visit that is certainly very suggestive in a place that testifies to a humanitarian and health work and that combines art and science.
