A very suggestive guided tour, with itineraries between art and science, to the Pharmacy of the Incurables of Naples

The Curiocity association has organized for Sunday April 12 2015 a special guided tour of the renowned Pharmacy of the Incurable, located in the historic center of Naples.

We will make a journey in the Muse of the Health Arts that will show the artistic and scientific aspect of the place, in Baroque style, made by Bartolomeo Vecchione. Starting from the Monumental Courtyard, visitors will admire the external facades of the historic Pharmacy, della Chapel of the Whites (so called because his religious, dressed in white, assisted those condemned to death) and S. Maria del Popolo. You will then access the two ancient cloisters of the Medical Garden and of S. Maria delle Grazie, which represents a real treasure trove of Neapolitan art.

The Pharmacy of the Incurables consists of a large hall, decorated with approx 400 majolica vases, an antechamber and a small room that served as a laboratory. Inside it is still possible to admire the carved and decorated walnut shelves, the central table, while on the walls there is a vast collection of albarelli and idrie, typical pharmacy ampoules, decorated in chiaroscuro turquoise.

The ceiling of the structure is decorated by the Bardellino canvas with the representation of Macaone who curates the wounded Menelaus, scene described directly by Homer.
The visit will end with a delicious aperitif.
