Starting January 13, 2018, every Saturday and Sunday, the Museo del Sottosuolo in Naples will host a guided tour of the museum , led by Munaciello, featuring the production Tappeto Volante.

The Munaciello is one of the oldest figures in Naples, whose fame is linked to popular legends that arose around this small, deformed spirit who wanders among the ancient buildings dressed in a black and white monk's habit to hide his physical appearance.

He's kind to some, spiteful to others , and born of a thwarted love, making him vengeful. In reality, it's thought that the munaciello was the ancient manager of water wells (the " pozzaro "), figures who weren't paid by their clients and took revenge by breaking into the homes of the lords and stealing precious objects. These objects were then given by the well-drainers to their lovers, into whose homes they would sneak through the canals to lower their buckets.

But the munaciello of the Museo del Sottosuolo is good and knows the secrets of this mysterious place and will accompany us to their discovery.
