After having hosted the prestigious exhibitions of Salvador Dali (2013 summer) and of Pablo Picasso, achieving a high success of visitors, the headquarters of the Sorrento Foundation welcome until November 22 2015, the incredible works and installations of Arnaldo Pomodoro, one of the most famous contemporary sculptors.

The "Rive dei mari" exhibition

Title of the exhibition set up in Villa Fiorentino is "Banks of the seas", a real tribute to the sea, in a city where the sea is its most fascinating feature.

The splendid rooms of the villa welcome well 70 works by Arnaldo Pomodoro, such as large bronze and fiberglass sculptures, intaglio prints, art books. Among the most representative of the sculptor's artistic career: The column of the traveler (1960) The sphere (1963) The spear of light (1985) and many others.

The works in the city

Pomodoro has always stated the importance of dialogue of the works with the external space, be it urban or panoramic: “A priority requirement in my work has always been the relationship of the work with the space in which it is placed”.

This is why Sorrento will return to being a city "adorned" with contemporary art thanks to seven monumental works already installed in its most beautiful squares and that everyone will be able to admire closely.

In this way the viewer will be able to understand the art of Pomodoro and the relationship of the works with two types of space: the open one of the City and the closed one of the Villa, which brings out the artistic nature of the sculptor, always rooted in a sense of the architectonic and symbolic of strongly archaic nature.

The seven works in the squares of Sorrento:

  • Lance of light, 1985 (Piazza Tasso)
  • Obelisk "Cassodoro", 1988 (Piazza Angelina Lauro) bronze
  • Point of space, 2003 (Piazza Andrea Veniero) bronze and corten
  • Progression and stasis, 2011 (Piazza Sant'Antonino) bronze
  • Nine hundred, 1999 (Piazza Marinai d'Italia) bronze
