The film by the Italian director Paolo Sorrentino was nominated for an Oscar in the category of best foreign films, which more precisely today is called "Best International Feature Film".

"It was the hand of God“, Which is certainly Sorrentino's most intimate and personal film, made it to be among the candidates and will represent Italy along with films from other countries that fell into the category.

We recall that in October ANICA (National Association of Multimedia Audiovisual Cinematographic Industries) had chosen this film as the the film that would represent our country at the Oscars ceremony, but the official announcement only arrived today. The last time an Italian film he fell into this category, even winning, he was in 2014 and it was always a Sorrentino film, that is La Grande Bellezza.

The ceremony will take place Sunday, March 27 in Los Angeles.

The films nominated for best foreign film

Together with "It was the hand of God", in the same category were nominated:

  • Drive My Car (Japan)
  • Flee (Denmark)
  • Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom (Bhutan)
  • The Worst Person in the World (Norway)

The other Italians nominated for the Oscars

In addition to Sorrentino, to represent Italy at the Oscars in general there will be:

  • Massimo Cantini Parrini candidate for i morals of "Cyrano";
  • the director Enrico Casarosa for the animation film "Luca“, Produced by Pixar and Disney.
