Sunday 19 September 2021 and the Feast of San Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples, and the city is preparing as always for the traditional ones celebrations in the Duomo. Also this year, however, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no procession in via Duomo and there will be restrictions regarding entry to the Duomo.

In fact, they will be able to enter only 450 people, for security reasons and to ensure interpersonal distancing, and will witness the miracle of the dissolution of the saint's blood, presided over by Archbishop Don Mimmo Battaglia.

Obviously there will be an obligation to wear the mask, but the Green Pass will not be required.

The program of the celebrations

September 18th

It starts already from Saturday 18 September with the Solemn Rites. This year it was the Diocese of Cerreto Sannita-Telese-Sant'Agata de'Goti to offer the oil for the votive lamp.

At 17.00 there will be thereception of the mayors of that Diocese at the San Gennaro Diocesan Committee in Piazzetta San Giuseppe dei Ruffi 6, while at 17.45 pm they will go to the Basilica of Santa Restituta in the Cathedral. At 18.00 pm the Vigilant Rite of the Celebration of First Vespers will begin.

September 19th

The day of the Solemnity of San Gennaro with the Duomo Cathedral open from hour to hour 8.00 21.00.

At 10.00, Archbishop Domenico Battaglia will go to the Chapel of the Treasury to open the safe that contains the ampoules with blood of San Gennaro and will bring them to the main altar. The Solemn Eucharistic Concelebration will begin during which the miracle of dissolution. After that, the Archbishop will walk the central nave to the outside to show the faithful the ampoules.

At 12.30, 17.00 and 18.30 there will be other celebrations. The last will be presided over by the Auxiliary Bishop.

From the 20 to the 27 September

These days will be held theOctave of Thanksgiving. At 9.00 there will be Holy Mass in the Chapel of the Treasury presided over by a Prelate, at the end of the celebration the cruet will be entrusted to a Canon for veneration by the faithful until 12.30. At 16.30 the prayer will resume for two hours and at 18.30 there will be the celebration of the Holy Mass.
