Naples Central Funicular closes for 10 months: replacement lines activated

Since August 2016, the Central Funicular of Naples has suspended the service for technical and modernization works.

From 1 August 2016 the ANM will suspend the service of the Central Funicular for the start of the mandatory work in terms of safety standards and a twenty-year general revision.

The intervention, which it will last about ten months, it includes the restructuring and modernization of the line, the revision of the carriages, the replacement of the winch and other mechanical devices, of the network equipment including the safety system, the introduction of new technologies for handling and information to the public.
Furthermore, they will be accessible to disabled passengers also the intermediate stations of Petraio and Corso Vittorio Emanuele thanks to the installation of lifts. There reopening is scheduled for July 2017.

Replacement lines

The following replacement services will be available during the works:

  • In the path Palizzi - Piazza Vanvitelli the Line 635 minibus will be active, every day from 06: 30 to 23: 30, with a frequency of 30 minutes.
  • Sul Corso Vittorio Emanuele is active in the C16 Line (Mergellina – Piazza Canneto) to reach the intermediate stops of the Chiaia and Montesanto funiculars, while from Vomero to the city center we recommend using the Metro Line 1.
  • For the disabled passengers will be offered free TAXI service on call, through the cooperatives affiliated with ANM.
